It would appear that Swindon Town have been keeping an eye on Football England recently, at least that’s what I’m claiming anyway. Since I tipped them as most likely to stay up in the now ferocious relegation battle, they haven’t put a foot wrong.

This was confirmed by another good win at home to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

The 2-1 victory, gives them three on the bounce on the row, and confidence seems to have been restored. Any struggling teams yet to visit the County Ground – beware.

Manager Iffy Onoura was well pleased with the latest result, and also seems optimistic of survival. Perhaps he’s also in a good mood because the proposed television project featuring Big Ron has been booted into row z, early doors.

At the top, Southend reconfirmed their promotion credentials with a fine 2-0 away defeat of Yeovil, which keeps them top. Shaun Goater scored the second, and his goals could be vital in the remainder of the season.

Brentford too perhaps have been reading this column. Last week I voiced a concern that letting DJ Campbell disappear to Birmingham for a pittance could harm their promotion aspirations. Seems I’m wrong.

The Bees absolutely paggered Walsall 5-0, proving that they can score without the DJ (League one player of the month for Jan), and heaping misery on a forlorn Paul Merson. Brentford still look nicely poised, sitting 5th with games in hand. Walsall look to be in terminal decline, and Merson has hinted that he will quit if results don’t improve.

Colchester continue to make us marvel at their impressive record this term. A comfortable 3-1 home win over Bradford City, after going 1-0 down racks up a club record of nine consecutive wins, and perhaps more impressively winning 19 out of 21.

Bradford went ahead through stocky veteran Dean Windass just before half time – the chunky striker is still a force to be reckoned with at this level. The game, now a tough test, was turned by the inspirational Richard Garcia who headed home twice early in the secone half. Garcia has now notched 6 in his last 4 games. A confident display was rounded off by Chris Iwelumo, also heading in just after the hour.

Colchester must now believe they can go up without the lottery of the play offs – they sit second, 1 point behind Southend, with a game in hand.

Also at the top, Barnsley have slipped in unnoticed in recent weeks, while others have floundered. A 2-0 victory over Bristol City at home this weekend lifts them into fourth spot. Much of this recent form can be attributed to striker Marc Richards, who bagged both goals, bringing his tally to 10 in the last 15 outings. His first was an exquisite finish after lobbing a defender on his approach.

Back at the bottom, a predictable dour affair between Rotherham & Hartlepool ended 0-0. Both these sides are in deep trouble and must turn the corner soon or bye bye. Hartlepool were under the instruction of Youth team coach Paul Stephenson for the first time after the much publicised turmoil at the club. Hopefully he can get them on track.

MK Dons look to be adrift without a paddle after going down 2-0 to Scunthorpe. Scunny will be glad of the points to keep them above water, thanks again to their prolific goal getter Billy Sharp. Another brace for Sharp put the game away after just 10 minutes.

As for the Dons – it looks like they are going. Will anybody miss them?

Blackpool continue to show great determination at home, and look to have what it takes to stay up. The Seasiders were very unlucky to take only the 1 point from their home meeting with Notts Forest.

A creditable 8,399 turned out for this 2-2 draw in which Blackpool were always in control, until the last minute equaliser by Forest’s Julian Bennett.

Oldham Athletic tripped themselves up by going down 1-0 in an eminently winnable game at home to Port Vale. This leaves the Latics adrift by 7 points from the play off spots. Manager Ronnie Moore knows he has to improve quickly.

Finally, Chesterfield kept up their unbeaten run and their play off hopes with a late home equaliser against Gillingham. Chesterfiald lie in 7th, with the Gills out of trouble, for the moment.

Buying a used car Chicago puts people in better control of their financial situation.

A car is a basic necessity in Chicago. A brand new car straight out of dealership is not. Not all people find great fancy in driving a sparkling Ferrari out of a showroom. Some people also look at the value loss that would incur to the money they spend in just a matter of days. The moment you drive your brand new car out of a dealership, value depreciation has happened to your coveted investment.

Car loans for Chicago used cars were not easy to come by. Now it is not the case. Loans to purchase used car Chicago are readily available with many loan companies. When you plan to purchase the used car dealership service of one of the used car Chicago lots, you also have an option to opt for an affordable loan. The loans are made available through the used car Chicago dealers.

Loans to buy a used car in Chicago also come with affordable terms. The car itself is given as security and the interest rates are down. Flexible repayment options for Chicago used car loans also should make you attracted to a good condition used vehicle.

In many cases you can get vehicles in its best condition, at a price a little more than half of its original showroom value. Used car Chicago comes from seizure of vehicles by police or even by banks. Used car Chicago can sometimes be sold out on an auction basis, where one can bid for a car for as low as $ 100. Don’t you think it is real deal looking for used car Chicago?

Prices are always a matter to look for when it comes to a used car Chicago. Sometimes a used car in Chicago can show blown up prices in paper. In reality you will be able to buy used car Chicago of same make and model for less than half of the advertised price. Whenever you look to buy used car Chicago, always go armed with exact knowledge of the prices. The advertised prices can be deceiving. Checking out actual selling prices is better option when it comes to buying a used car in Chicago.

There is nothing to worry about going for a used vehicle. The point is the car must serve you in a way it should.

It is therefore necessary to get the car thoroughly examined by a mechanic. Mechanics may be examining used cars in Chicago on a daily basis. You may not be able to spot anomalies in a used car as easily as a mechanic can. Even a minor color difference should alert you to an accident in the history of the car.

If you want a six-figure income sitting at your computer, working the hours you choose, doing what you love, then learn to market online the smart way.

You may be like me. You’ve got a great service business – or a small business – and you decide you want to have “an online presence.” You start with a website. Then you realize nobody is going to find you unless you do something to drive traffic.

You used to drive “in” traffic to a job, now you’re “driving traffic to” your website. You are herding “unique visitors” to web pages, hoping they’ll stay long enough to read what you have to say and become interested in your services.

Just about anybody who has put up a website has realized it is not enough to “build it and they will come.” Many people realize this after spending big bucks on website design. One woman spent $50,000 to put up an elaborate website; it looked gorgeous, only it didn’t sell anything. It didn’t even capture email addresses from visitors to follow up with them.

Most independent professionals don’t have a big budget to hire someone for marketing their business online. So most of us start by reading the tons of information online to learn what we need to know to make marketing online work.

Learning a New Language: Techie Talk

Here’s what happened to me when I decided to go online with my business 7 years ago. I signed up for every free ezine I could from all the big names in Internet marketing. After a while, my eyes started to glaze over reading about search engine optimization, keywords, pay for click, ad tracking links, conversion rates, targeted traffic, and shopping cart strategies.

I also got tired of hearing the hype – that I was going to earn “six figures in 90 days” – if only I’d buy their $1000 program. I unsubscribed from marketing ezines. I was going to focus on my core business, and not be distracted by all this hype.

Another year would go by and I was afraid to look at my website stats. I knew it wasn’t working.

True Confessions: Guilty of Spa*ming!

I’ll admit it: I hired a spa*mer, although I didn’t know it at the time. To me, he was just a “techie.” He promised to find suitable email addresses off the web and send an invitation to them to visit my website, and use my services. Seemed like a nice idea to me!

I had no idea at the time that this was actually spamming. Not only was this frowned upon and unprofessional, it is now illegal. I only got a few complaints, but also a lot of new clients. Then I stopped doing it, as I learned that this was not the way a reputable company does business online.

I was baffled by all the good marketing I saw online and in emails, and I knew I could be doing better. So I threw some money at the problem: I hired a marketing coach.

You Can’t Know Everything About Online Marketing: Hire an Expert

This turned out to be the best approach, because my marketing coach did not just hand out advice. She trained me in what I really needed to know, set up my shopping cart system for me, walked me through the steps, and showed me how to effectively market my services online.

In the last three to four years, I’ve learned all those electronic and marketing terms, and can dish them out as well. I can talk techie. I can nod and wink when a marketer alludes to a squeeze page. I can update my web pages, set up a new product in my shopping cart, write autoresponders, and use ad tracker links.

I offer a newsletter, three e-books, many bonus reports, teleseminars, articles, and audio podcast recordings available on my website and blogs. I write on 7 different blogs, which has tripled traffic to my website in the last year. My revenue doubled last year, and all from online services.

Biggest Lessons

My biggest lesson learned? You can’t get clients without investing in marketing, and sometimes that amounts to more than 50% of our efforts and time.

Secondly, you can’t be expected to know how to market online. You can learn, and to shorten the learning curve, hire someone who knows what they’re doing. Best evidence is their own marketing.

It is essential to start learning marketing and tech skills so that you can do marketing tasks yourself. It is not rocket science. There are efficient systems available to make your tasks easier.

Here are two time-saving programs to help you manage your marketing presence:

1. Macromedia’s Dreamweaver or Microsoft’s FrontPage:

Learning basic web skills will save you time and money whenever you need to change something on your website pages. You don’t have to learn how to create a whole website, but it is essential you learn how to make page changes and create one-page websites for sales letters.

2. KickStartCart.com: http://snipurl.com/KickStartCart

More than just a shopping cart for processing orders, this system captures email addresses, provides digital downloads for free reports, and to get potential clients into your system without having to do it manually.

There are learning curves on the road to success. And you can’t win the lottery without buying a ticket, either. The Internet promises wealth and pleasure, but only you can carve your own path to success as you define it. It won’t happen in 90 days, but it will happen if you get started and persevere.

It was a wild football weekend, the biggest surprise was Michigan State engineering the greatest comeback in NCAA Division I-A history. Down 38-3 in the third quarter at Northwestern, the Spartans rose from the dead with an improbable 41-38 comeback win. The Wildcats started in the first half converting on six of their first seven scoring drives before a missed field goal helped start the Spartan comeback.

This brings up the point about why adjustments are so important in football, both on the field and at the betting window. Adjustments before a game and at halftime can significantly change things. One adjustment Michigan State made was in the secondary, where Nehemiah Warrick and SirDarean Adams switched positions — Warrick to bandit, Adams to safety. The flip-flop helped improve communication between the secondary and defensive line, and allowed Warrick to roam freely.

I’m not suggesting the Spartans under John L. Smith are great at making important adjustments. They have underachieved under his guidance, but I am stressing how important adjustments can be in a game. Over the long haul, good coaching staffs will make adjustments to help a team win. It even shows up against the spread, too.

The New England Patriots trailed Buffalo 17-7 at the half in the season opener in September. The Pats had the ball for the final play of the half, but simply took a knee to regroup. Fans even booed. However, the Pats under Bill Belichick have been outstanding at making key halftime adjustments and that’s what was taking place. They came out in the second half, as a 7-point second half favorite, and outscored the Bills 12-0 to win the game and cover the second half number.

Adjustments can help bettors who like to play totals, too. Notice that after going 4 straight games under the total, the Miami Dolphins have changed their strategy the last two weeks. The Dolphins came out throwing Sunday against Green Bay, jumping to a 10-6 halftime lead. They threw the ball 62 times for 414 pass yards in a game that sailed over the total, 34-24. QB Joey Harrington set a Miami regular-season record with 62 passing attempts. It’s one thing to look at Miami’s 13 points per game scoring average coming into the game and think that they are a good ‘under’ the total team. However, it’s important to keep up on adjustments, because that can alter the pace and flow of a game, and change the way you handicap and analyze.

The Chicago Bears came into this season with a reputation of being a great team to bet ‘under’ the total, with a terrific defense and a weak offense. However, they have been very strong on offense, for the most part, with a new style of stretching the field with speedster WR Bernard Berrian. And who would have thought New Orleans would be fifth in the NFL in total offense? A new coaching staff and offensive personnel have changed how this team moves the football.

Dennis Green flipped out last week and fired his offensive coordinator after that awful Monday night loss to Chicago. Arizona then had 75 yards in the first half Sunday, trailing the Raiders 17-3. Oops! I would say that particular adjustment has been a failure.

It will be interesting to watch the Baltimore Ravens this coming weekend as it will be their first game since firing offensive coordinator Jim Haslett. Head Coach Brian Billick will be calling the plays. The Ravens probably don’t have the personnel to suddenly explode offensively, but from a handicapping perspective it’s essential to keep up on changes like this each week. You need to be prepared to make wagering adjustments, as well, if necessary. Good luck, as always…Al McMordie.

Ads for discount vitamins can be seen just about anywhere from television commercials, magazines, billboards and the radio, to even TV dinners. The doctor mentions the importance of vitamins in your check up and who can’t recall their parents nagging us to take them, reminding us that vitamins will make us ?big and strong?. But at one point or another, the question of whether vitamins are really for you will come to mind and discount vitamins will be just one of the many possibilities. However, the benefits of these discount vitamins can not only be good for your health but also your valued time and money. While the number of benefits is never ending, there are a few that are important to point out.* The health benefits of vitamins are tremendous – According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, over 40% of US Citizens use some type of vitamin supplement. Vitamins and minerals are critical to the overall development of our bodies and our minds, as well as help to promote good health and body functions. Vitamins are also no longer just for humans, but for pets as well. Dogs and cats can also benefit from vitamins, as they can target health conditions that pets face daily. Conditions such as anxiety, bad breath, joint problems and skin or coat conditions, can be treated with the right vitamin for your pet.* Shopping wisely can give you the best price – Looking at things such as quality and quantity, compared to price can save lots of money. For example, purchasing 120 capsules of Source Naturals Life Force capsules, discounted online for $13.25, will save you $12.73 off the standard price. A 60 count of Solaray Children’s Chewable Vitamins is discounted to $3.42, which is a savings of $2.37 off the regular price. Competition between companies benefits the consumer by lowering prices. At anytime, discounts from 5% to 75% can be found online. Discount vitamin companies online are well-known for having the freshest vitamins on the market, as they have such a loyal base of customers causing continuous restocking to occur. These companies have the funds available to be able to offer the vitamins at such a great price and can actually provide a larger selection of vitamins, minerals and supplements than you can find in a store.* The ability to order at your convenience – Because the ordering is being done online, you can do it at anytime. Whether it’s in a rush to get to work after you have realized you are almost out, to sitting in your robe on a Saturday night, it can be done in your time and at your leisure. In addition, choosing to order at home means no salespeople. You can take your time and decide what you want to purchase without a salesperson asking if you need assistance every few minutes. While some may need the interaction with a salesperson, some sites offer you the ability to contact a friendly, helpful salesperson on the telephone, which can answer any questions you have about the products, payment or the delivery. This provides you the opportunity to really seek out the vitamins that are perfect for you and your family.* Use the Internet to become educated on vitamins and your overall good health – A well-established site provides research articles, blogs and news to encourage the consumer to be informed about their health and the vitamins they are taking. Many sites also offer descriptions and important directions for use so that the consumer is informed of what the vitamin is used for, its size and what ingredients are included. It’s always important to discuss the vitamins you are taking or thinking about taking with your doctor to know how they will work for you and with any medications or health conditions you may have.* The vitamins are shipped directly to you at your door – There is no need to run to the store to pick up your vitamins when they are shipped directly to you. This can save you time, gas for your vehicle, as well as patience in the long run. No one wants to fight a crowd just to get to their local drug store and pick up their vitamins, especially around the holiday season. In addition, looking for a secure site to make your purchases is extremely important. While for years consumers were afraid to release their credit card information and other personal information online, the advancements in technology have made the process secure and safe.* Choosing to take vitamins is exercising good judgment – The choices that we make have an ability to have an impact on those around us. This is especially important for those who have or are in contact with children. Children tend to do the same as those around them do and while we all have used the old phrase, ?Do as I say, not as I do? at some point, setting a positive example for the children around us is important. Maybe a significant other or family member will begin taking vitamins because they see the benefits from you.Discount vitamins are an intelligent and important addition to diet and exercise. They are a clear alternative for anyone that is looking to stay healthy, but are not interested in spending a lot of money doing it. Don’t let the advantages of them pass you by.

Proper maintenance of a vehicle either new or old is the same. The engine has to be checked from time to time, the oil has to be changed and spark plugs need to be replaced. Any product wears down in time and the best thing to do if you are on a budget is to buy cheap, good quality used car parts.
Acquiring used car parts is the same as looking around for a second hand car. You can either look for it in the classified ads, go around the neighborhood checking out the various shops that do sell these parts or you can surf the net saving some time and effort and search for the parts that are needed.
There was time that such parts could only be found in dealerships and in the shops of local mechanics. This made it a challenge for those who needed it badly especially since there was no guarantee that the part if found, would fit the requirements and the seller would usually jack up the price giving the buyer no choice but to pay what was demanded.
Searching for cheap used car parts does not have to be that difficult anymore as long as you remember a few things before looking for it;
? By knowing exactly what is needed depending on the make and model of the car you have, it will make it easier for the person to go around looking for the exact car part
? After having the specific part in mind, you can then check how much you are willing to spend to acquire that item.
? Some parts that are needed don’t have to be the original. There are some parts that can be bought at surplus or a compatible part from another car make and model enabling can be used making a person save money for other things.
? After getting the proper information, you can start by checking out either the local shops or dealers. If these people don’t have it, perhaps another dealer can be recommended to assist in the procurement. Another place you can go to are the local junkyards since a lot of parts there can be reused. Asking the local auto club for help and browsing through the Internet are also other options a person has to help in the search for other hard to find parts which can be ordered and delivered in a few days time.About the Author: Gregory Ashton, your resident automobile enthusiast, bringing to you over 20 years of vehicular passion, and expertise; presents for your approval his insider secrets on selecting, buying, and maintianing the car that is ideal for you. http://www.best-car-buying-tips.com

Wherever you are from, we wish you a warm welcome from Citylocal Fife, ‘the business directory in Fife? based near the Royal Burgh and City of Dunfermline and covering all the ancient Kingdom.

WELCOME to the Kingdom of Fife!

If you are visiting Fife by road from the North or South, then we apologise for taking your money for the privilege of crossing the bridge(s); and rest assured we wouldn’t do that if Dunfermline were still the Capital of Scotland instead of the young upstart, Edinburgh. It does however indicate that the Scottish Parliament places more value on Fife than Edinburgh.

Dunfermline is a city with many easily accessible and interesting attractions, from its ancient 12th-century Abbey to the restored 15th-century Abbot House where you can enjoy a snack and drink in its cosy caf?, or you can choose to explore the bustling High Street and once you have finished your retail therapy you can relax and absorb the atmosphere in ?Oolahs?, a modern and well appointed caf? in the High Street.

Andrew Carnegie the world famous industrialist and philanthropist was born in Dunfermline in 1835, and as you explore the City you will find his ?ghost? is everywhere, no more so than in his family home, a humble weaver’s cottage which been preserved and extended to include a museum of his life.

Only a few minutes drive from Dunfermline, you will find several villages worth visiting, Culross (another Royal Burgh) to the West, is in my view the most interesting, and when you walk along the narrow cobbled streets you can imagine yourself back in the 16th or 17th century. The village is kept in first class order, and the pan-tiled houses with their crow-step gables have been sympathetically restored. There is plenty to see and do for both adults and children, and if time is short I would suggest that your priority is The Palace (built between 1597 and 1611) which was the home of Sir George Bruce, an enterprising merchant and coal baron. Its original interiors feature some magnificent painted woodwork and ceilings, and it has mediaeval gardens to the rear. The Palace has its own first class tea rooms, and ‘the Red Lion?, a local pub, has an excellent restaurant with a varied and very reasonably priced menu.

Limekilns and Charlestown although not on the same scale as Culross are also both picturesque coastal villages, with their own character and history, and are well worthy of a visit, especially in the summer months. There is a good selection of beer and meals available at the ’ship Inn? in Limekilns, and ‘the Elgin Hotel? in Charleston is also worth a visit.
In our next edition we will cover the towns of Aberdour, Burntisland, Inverkeithing Kinghorn and Kirkcaldy as we move up towards the East Neuk on the way to St Andrews.

One of the fastest growing and most exciting technologies these days is devices that use some sort of wireless network. Wireless networking has allowed almost anyone to use many different devices in a way that not too long ago was unheard of. The most exciting thing about wireless networking is that the development of new technologies is only just beginning.

A new wireless protocol, 802.11N, should be released later this year, which will allow wireless networks to connect over longer distances, and at faster speeds. With this new advancement companies will be able to allow all of their users to connect to the network wirelessly. This new protocol, coupled with recent advancements in secure connections to wireless networks, will allow businesses to perform tasks wirelessly that they have never been able to do before. Companies utilizing this new protocol will also be able to save quite a bit of money trying to hard wire their offices, by using less wireless routers to do the same task that wired routers did in the past.

Wireless networks have become a very important part of many businesses, because you can construct a wireless network that is separate from your main network that only allows visitors access to the internet and not to any of your precious information. This will also allow you to setup places for visitors to connect to the internet that do not require a desk to be setup or a dedicated computer setup for their access. Instead you can utilize a sitting area and a laptop to achieve the same functionality, without the security risks of someone connecting directly into your network. Many of the reasons why wireless networks were a faux pas in the past have been addressed and now wireless networks are looked at more and more as a viable alternative to a hard wired network. The best thing about wireless networks is that many new technologies are being released every year that extend the functionality and availability of this fascinating new technology.

This was written for an academic journal about people with disabilities and what that means concerning their parent-child relationships.

As far back as I can remember, I have been hearing voices. It started when I was just three months old. I remember lying on my back in a cold sweat, undergoing nicotine withdrawal (as I found out decades later), my smoking mother having switched from breast-feeding to bottled formula. Gasping for breath, I heard my father yelling at my sister in the next room. She was wetting the bed every night, and my father was extremely upset. I couldn’t understand at all, and was preparing to scream aloud.

Suddenly a voice went off in my head, saying ?If you scream, something very bad will happen to you.? Since I was only a baby, it wasn’t in words, but I could hear the voice. I screamed anyway, and my mother came in, swooping me out of the crib into her loving arms. I heard my father’s yelling increase, and the sounds of my sister being spanked. It was so awful I can recall it even now, though I know that seems utterly impossible.

I grew up clumsy, anti-social, unable to communicate well. And the voices continued. I was watching TV once, ‘the Green Hornet? show, and I felt something spit very hard between my legs, going straight up my private parts. It was horrible. But I never told my parents about any of these things, keeping it all quietly to myself as the other kids taunted me, making fun of how weird and unusual I was, unable to keep up with them except in my schoolwork. There, I excelled. But for many years I spoke to no one, crying to myself even in the classroom, my body twisting up into awkward shapes uncontrollably. My mother noticed this, but we never saw a doctor about it. Instead, she sought out psychological counseling for me when I entered my teens. This did me no real good.

One day, a nice lady coach who had seen me jogging around the high school track asked me to join the girl’s track team. I did, and this began a partial recovery from my disabilities and social awkwardness. I made friends, and even came in second in one of our races. By the time I entered college I was pretty much normal, though often subject to strange feelings and occurrences, and occasional voices in my head. But still disturbed and given to crying fits, I dropped out of college, taking off hitch-hiking to blindly find my own haphazard way of living. I ended up in Washington State, where I found work as an attendant for the disabled. I met John Tyler, a most amazing man with polio who taught me that disability is not the end of your life, but the beginning, and I made friends with other disabled people.

For the first time in my life, I was happy; I blossomed with joy, no longer alone and afraid. I even married the most wonderful man in the world, Ron Schwarz, the son of Austrian Jews who had fled Hitler’s Holocaust; he had severe multiple sclerosis and used an electric wheelchair. We could not consummate our marriage, but we were deeply in love just the same. We all lived happily at Center Park, the first major apartment building in the country built specifically for people in wheelchairs and for all kinds of disabled people to abide within its beautiful walls independently. I met every sort of disabled person imaginable, including the deaf/blind, learning all about the various disabilities. But my sweet husband Ron finally died of cancer in February of 1985, two short months after my dearest friend John Tyler, my mentor and savior, unhappily succumbed to pneumonia.

Working just a few more years for the disabled, I stressed out, unable to work anymore, and in the middle of this, 1986, I had an incident where I tried to hurt myself by falling off a window ledge, ending up hospitalized and on several mental health medications. Previously in 1982 I had been diagnosed as depressed, but had not stayed on medications. Now I was forced to do so, until I finally had myself taken off them again. I went on struggling for years until I met Remigio, my present husband, in a certified nursing class in 1990. I went back to work for a disabled lady, Carrie, again at Center Park. Remigio and I lived with her there until she gave up her battle to live independently and moved to a nursing home, where she died.

I and Remigio, constantly arguing due to my mental disability, married and moved into our own apartment. As he couldn’t take the constant quarreling, he took me to a psychiatrist friend of his, and once again I was put on strong medications. These hurt me physically, and in 1997 I finally came down with a severe physical disability, chronic dystonia/dyskinesia of my left arm and head. We are presently treating this by reducing my psychiatric medications and using natural therapeutics. But I still constantly turn to the left, having to struggle to right myself at all times; my left arm sticks straight out, and it’s very difficult to bend it, or even type.

Yet I had already set myself up years ago in business as a freelance writer, copy editor, copy writer, ghost writer and website designer under the name Rainbow Writing, Inc. I have my own website, several of them in fact, and am listed within several Internet writing agencies. I work ten to twelve hours a day, almost seven days a week, getting there by taking frequent breaks. I am just starting to make some money at this, and was recently hired as a full-time ghost writer by The Floating Gallery of New York City.

It’s a daily struggle, and my left arm feels like it’s going to break off my body at the end of my challenging day. But it keeps me busy, and I truly love my work. Many people have said I am blessed with extraordinary skill and talent, and I try to go a little further and learn a little more each day.

Remigio, a former psychiatric aide, certified nurse aide, and Doctor of Osteopathy, is a Godsend. I love him as much as I loved Ron, in spite of my mental problems, which are starting to finally alleviate under Remigio’s constant care and loving support. And in 1994, we were blessed during Christmas, the same season that John Tyler died, with a beautiful little daughter, our sweet and loving Angela. Due to my disability, she suffered some psychological trauma, such as during the times I attempted suicide, but although partly severely disabled herself from this, she is healing and pulling through, excelling academically and socially in ways I never was able to learn. She is a dream come true.

If I could have written something for my parents, or told them something when I was growing up, I would have told them to not fear my special challenges. I would have asked them to read about people with disabilities, which my mother did a little, reading about an anti-social little boy when she sent me to counseling. I did not even know about disabilities when I was growing up, so I would have asked them to have taken a greater role in my upbringing, as they were often rather aloof and distant. They didn’t seem to realize that my problems were not all my own fault, but the fault of fate and my unknown, undiagnosed, untreated mental, social and physical problems.

I would tell the parents of children with similar disabilities to mine to pay more attention to their children, never blaming them for their problems, listening to them carefully and never comparing them to normal children, which shames them and only makes matters worse. I would tell them to read books about children with disabilities, and to enter any organizations for such children, exposing their own child(ren) to other, similarly-burdened children so they would have a peer group, which I did not have until adulthood.

I believe they would feel more accepted and normal that way, and a lot happier than I ever was. It would be a much more fun, healthy, and productive life for them to be surrounded with other disabled children, and to develop a healthier, more normal attitude about themselves and their disabilities. Above all, it would help to stress their abilities and cultivate their happiness, both within their families and in society at large, as they learn and grow.

There are many myths that undermine
relationships, but one of the most common is the
belief that “I am responsible for other people’s
happiness.” This pattern is so common as to be
almost primal. You can hardly find a person who
does not act this out to some degree.

In moderation, this belief supports the give and
take of healthy relationships. But in more
extreme expressions, those who believe they are
responsible for other people’s happiness can
become people pleasers, weighed down by a goal
they can never attain. For who can control the
reactions of others?

Pleasers often make their own needs and desires
secondary to everyone else’s. Believing their
actions are loving and kind, they may not see
that much of their energy is devoted to winning
approval.

This is why people pleasing often undermines
rather than nourishes a relationship. Healthy
relationships thrive when each person is coming
from honesty, a balance of caring for self and
others, and integrity with oneself.

Claire’s Aha: Let’s take a closer look at this
myth at work in an excerpt from an Option
dialogue I had with a client I’ll call Claire.

Claire came to me feeling very frustrated that
she couldn’t please her boyfriend. (Note: I’ve
left out a number of questions and details from
our hour session for the sake of brevity.)

Claire: I try this, I try that. No matter what I
do, Rodney never seems satisfied or happy.
Nothing I do is ever enough!

Q: Do you believe you can make Rodney happy?
A: Yes, I think I should be able to. I try to do
what he wants-I avoid disagreements with him, I
watch the movies he wants to see, we go out with
his friends, I dress the way he wants. But he’s
never satisfied.

Q: Why do you believe you can make him happy?
A: Because if I don’t make him happy, he’ll leave
me.

Q: Do you know if that’s true?
A: I believe that it’s true.

Q: Why do you believe that?
A: Because he gets upset if I don’t do everything
he wants to do.

Q: What might you be concerned would happen if
you didn’t believe he’d leave you?
A: I think I’d do what I wanted, and then he’d
really get mad.

Q: Would it be okay to do what you want
sometimes, even if he gets mad?
A: I’d like to do what I want sometimes, but I’m
afraid to risk the relationship.

Q: Is it worth it to you to not do what you want
in order to keep the relationship?
A: When you put it that way, I’m not sure. Hmm.
Maybe my being happy is as important as his being
happy.

Q: Do you believe it could be?
A: Yeah… Wow. What a concept! I could be
focusing on making myself happy!

Q: Would that be okay with you?
A: Maybe it would be okay, because right now
neither one of us is happy.

Even in this excerpt, you see Claire’s limiting
beliefs start to loosen up and shake free. She
has been acting from the myth that she is
responsible for Rodney’s happiness and that she
is responsible for keeping them together. In this
session, it occurred to her that she was not
putting enough importance on her own happiness.

Claire continued to explore this idea and uncover
more insights in subsequent sessions. And, at the
same time, her actions began to change. More and
more often, she took care of her own needs and
expressed her feelings and opinions to Rodney.
One day she reported in amazement that he was
much nicer to her now, as she got more
independent. (However, there are no guarantees
about how someone will react to our
transformations.)

Tool Kit for Unraveling the Myth

If you think you may have the tendency to lose
yourself in relationships, look for a belief that
could be underlying this behavior, such as, “I
must do –, or I won’t be loved,” then ask
yourself these questions:

Do I believe that?
Why do I believe that?
What seems true about that?
What am I concerned might happen if I didn’t
believe that? (What might happen that I would not
like?)
Something you have held as true may reveal itself
to be a myth-not true, and damaging to your
happiness and your relationships. Keep asking
yourself these questions, and more insights will
unfold. You’ll know the myth is unraveling when
you see your actions and reactions change. Where
your actions were frozen in a self-defeating
pattern, you’ll now discover a flow of options
and more peace.

Ain’t love grand? And let’s include self-love.
